China worldwide income and overseas status: residency first

XinYue Wealth policy perspective · Updated 4 October 2026

Worldwide income starts with residence

China’s individual income tax framework distinguishes residents and non-residents: residents’ domestic and overseas income, and non-residents’ China-source income, fall within the applicable rules. Overseas status still calls for a factual residency assessment.

Organise foreign income and credits

Official overseas-income guidance sets out resident filing and credit arrangements. Our coordination approach separates income categories, amounts, years, tax-paid evidence and jurisdictions for advisers to review filings and available credits.

Family members need individual review

We organise residence, work, family and economic ties separately for each member. A passport or one day-count figure should not be used to place the entire family into one conclusion.

A clear adviser handover

XinYue prepares facts, accounts and documents for review and coordinates advisers in China, Singapore and other locations. Appropriate professionals confirm tax residence, liabilities, filings and treaty applicability.
